Even though each ocean turbine unit is 50′ wide by 40′ long by 40′ tall, it only reaches about 10′ out of the water.
The NEXUS is designed to be environmentally friendly. It’s anchored on sand-covered bottoms so it will not harm marine life or sensitive ecosystems. Other safety features, such as a front grate and slow moving turbine blades, further protect the marine environment.
Not visible or audible from shore, the NEXUS doesn’t impact coastal life. A true green powered machine, it produces energy much cheaper than solar or wind 24-hours a day regardless of wind or weather patterns and still emits zero carbon. After being in development for 3 years, the first prototype is now ready for construction.
Each turbine unit is equipped with an state-of-the-art monitoring system. Cameras are monitoring the interior as well as outside and under water. Navigational warning systems are onboard as required by marine laws and according to the coast guard instructions. Sensors are monitoring the movement of the sea and local weather conditions.
One NEXUS Ocean Unit has the potential to produce 1.2 Megawatts per hour – enough energy to power approximately 800 houses (based on the average U.S. household electricity consumption of 1000 kWh per month).
